General Comments about the position:
The Marketing and Communications Manager will be primarily responsible for working with the Vice President of Business-to-Business Marketing to develop and implement communications and engagement strategies, plans and initiatives that support the organizationâs key internal and external transformation initiatives. The position provides essential support to key short-term and long-term organizational growth goals and priorities for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Purpose of position:
The Marketing and Communications Managerâs primary focus will be to serve as a marketing and communications strategist, content producer, and essential project manager, ensuring team and organizational initiatives are successfully implemented on time, on budget and with critical judgement that ensures alignment with the overall goals for VUMC. He/She will both lead and contribute to department-level and project-level strategy development and execution that may include designing and supporting the roll out of key internal and external initiatives, faculty and staff messaging, communications and content strategy for multiple audiences, serving as a liaison for VUMC in the community and building engagement with key communities, digital/online marketing, and other tactics/platforms. Examples include critical support for VUMCâs work with area business leaders, B2B priorities like Population Health, Pharmacy and Telemedicine, and executing upon VUMCâs founding role in the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network. The position will also lead communications and engagement strategies and messaging for the organizationâs efforts to align with and find success in various payment reform and practice transformation initiatives, such as MACRA, MIPS, Bundles, and TCPI, and will support the launch of new businesses VUMC creates.
Â§ 20% - Acts as strategic partner to VUMC executives, departments and teams, providing valuable marketing and communications counsel and project execution across multiple channels for maximum impact on various internal and external target audiences; Serves in both lead and support role, depending on the need, on projects that impact the strategic direction for the organization and functions in conjunction with the Vice President, Marketing Department leadership team and other marketing colleagues.
Â§ 25% - Develops short and long term strategic, communications and marketing plans and programs that align with the goals and objectives of VUMC; Executes and manages the marketing and communications elements of key programs and priorities for key internal and external audiences; Evaluates the results of marketing and communications efforts to determine future plans.
Â§ 25% - Crafts messages and written elements, often in the physician and/or executive voice, necessary to execute initiatives successfully, and builds content strategy to ensure content is maximized across audiences; Builds and maintains positive relationships with internal resources and external vendors and agencies to be able to leverage their support for complex projects and ensure timely, high-quality strategy development and deliverables.

- 5% - Responsible for event strategy, marketing, and support for appropriate events
o 6-8 years related experience demonstrating skills and duties outlined above.
o Health care industry experience required. Payment reform/Population Health experience preferred. Direct internal communications and/or public relations background preferred.
o Direct experience providing communications and marketing support for major internal corporate initiatives highly preferred.
o Experience developing strategy and executing effective projects across new marketing concepts and approaches, including, content strategy, digital marketing, PR/media relations and audience engagement.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to express complex concepts clearly and concisely. Writing samples will be requested during interview process.
- Ability to and comfort with presenting information to internal and external stakeholders at all levels, and provide counsel
o Essential to this role will be knowledge of both interactive and print platforms, designing and managing project timelines, seeking approvals on innovative campaign concepts, and overseeing the production of associated deliverables in an efficient and effective manner.
- Ability to take business insights and goals and/or complex health care terminology, and confidently create robust integrated marketing communications strategies and plans
- Strong analytic and critical thinking skills, including the ability to understand and interpret relevant data and complex topics

o Bachelorâs degree in marketing, communication or related field.
