Job Details
ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL
A growing privately held company seeks a seasoned Associate General Counsel to join its lean, high-performing legal department. Reporting to senior legal leadership, this role requires a confident generalist who can provide autonomous legal counsel across a wide range of business matters in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, redline, and negotiate contracts, leases, and commercial agreements across business units
- Provide legal advice on regulatory compliance, privacy laws, and insurance/service contract matters
- Manage outside counsel on litigation matters including discovery and document review
- Support M&A due diligence and integration activities
- Review marketing and training collateral for legal compliance
- Engage with trade associations and support membership activities
- Interface regularly with C-Suite executives on strategic legal matters
- Stay current on applicable law and bring relevant developments back to the team
Requirements:
- JD required; active member of a US State Bar in good standing
- 7+ years practicing law, majority as in-house counsel for a business of similar complexity
- Strong generalist background— breadth of experience valued over deep subject matter expertise in any one area
- Experience in regulatory compliance, insurance, or a regulated industry strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage outside counsel with a focus on cost management
- M&A due diligence experience preferred
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Self-starter comfortable with autonomy and C-Suite interaction
- Travel required as business needs dictate
