Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose of Position:
Under direction of the Vice President or the Executive Director or their designees, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, develops, establishes, implements and monitors promotional marketing and communication models, plans and practices for promotion to the public and HHC employees, the objectives, policies and Corporate achievements with the objective of building and enhancing HHC Corporate identity.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
- Develops data, analyzes and evaluates beliefs, interests, needs, knowledge and practices of specific population groups as related to the activities of Corporation hospitals. Analyzes patient and community perceptions of attitudes toward HHC services to patients with particular attention to impediments to communication, information access and reasonable utilization of such services.
- Studies and analyzes the social structure of assigned communities, identifies and evaluates the nature of community organizations relating findings to program development, Implementation and evaluation. Engages in programs and activities which develop awareness in the various service communities and patient populations of the Corporation with respect to available preventative medicine health care, technical assistance, program approaches, facilities and services of HHC.
- Develops coordinated public information, marketing and promotion and communication programs to enable effective communications of Corporate activities and programs.
- Advises in the formulation and accomplishment of goodwill programs and better understanding in communities in which the Corporation and its hospitals and medical centers operate.
- Acts as liaison and advisor for individual hospital communications and public relations efforts.
- Participates in the formulation of policies and dissemination of procedures on matters of public information, marketing, health education and community relations.
- Insures that public information and communications efforts of hospitals are consistent with policies and objectives of the Corporation.
- Directs issuance of newsletters, bulletins, annual reports and other publications originating from Corporate headquarters or local hospitals.
- Establishes and maintains proper relations with communications and news media.
- Directs programs for placing manuscripts on activities of the Corporation in medical,
- professional and other publications, and news conferences on important developments affecting the Corporation and public.
- Establishes programs for effective communication of policies, programs and developments relating to all matters concerning employee relations.
- Controls promotion and publicity programs within the division and coordinates outside agencies contracted to assist in administration of such programs.
- Supervises production schedules for publications.
- Reviews all printed matter originating within the department relating to the promotion effort: e.g. billboards, brochures and direct mail.
- Represents the Corporation through membership and active participation in a wide variety of organizations and similar institutions.
Minimum Qualifications
* Qualifications for Central Office.
** Qualifications for Health Care Facilities.
1. A Baccalaureate Degree in Business Administration, Management, Industrial Relations, Public Administration, Social Work, Journalism or approved related fields; and,
2. Six* or four** years of responsible public relations and marketing experience involving relations with the press and communications media, employee relations, communications, community affairs, public information, Corporate and business affairs, governmental and legislative affairs and relations, including three years in supervisory, administrative or management functions and activities; or,
3. A satisfactory combination of equivalent training, education and experience.
