Property Management (property.berkeley.edu) is responsible for post-purchase processes associated with many of the physical goods required by the campus, as well as providing related useful services. We provide: •Accurate and timely delivery of purchased goods •Management and control of inventorial and non-inventorial equipment •Sale and disposal of surplus UC Berkeley campus property •Acquisition, assistance, and management of the University's fleet of vehicles •Moving and special event support services •Administration of the campus secured rental storage space program
Reporting to the Director for Property Management and Library Bindery, the incumbent shares responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Excess and Surplus operation. Responsibilities include receipt, processing and proper disposal of campus assets sent for surplus by campus departments. Functions include generating revenue through the public sale of the campus’s surplus items, including ongoing on-site public auctions, electronic auctions (e.g., eBay), and/or direct marketing of items back to manufacturers and recycling those items that are not sold. The incumbent works on marketing activities, working collaboratively with various other campus departments involved in the campus recycling program, and shares responsibility for the proper disposal of University assets. Shares responsibility with Excess and Surplus sales assistant for the daily opening and closing and overall operation of the sales showroom.
Marketing & Sales •Functionally responsible for overall operation of Excess and Surplus. •Ensures good customer service through providing appropriate information to answer questions and explain basic products and services. •Responsible for resolving disputes with customers over pricing, holds and pick ups, with the ability to elevate issues to the Director for Property Management and Library Bindery where necessary. •Assists as needed in surplus vehicle sales for the University. •Creates and maintains a “Sales Environment” with a goal of making sales a significant source of revenue. •Under general supervision, plans, develops and implements basic marketing and/or sales plans, strategies and/or events targeted at campus departments, other UC campuses, other educational communities, and the general public, including but not limited to the utilization of: BearBuy, Cal Marketplace, Berkeley Parents Group, newsletters, fliers, newspaper advertisements, list-serves and mailing Lists. •Conducts basic market research and/or sales and generates and uses marketing and/or sales reports. •Makes biweekly deposits, tracking both sales to the public and campus departments on a daily basis. •Responsible for Excess and Surplus website content.
Receiving, Inventory & Warehousing •Triages electronic assets for sale or disposal, ensuring hard drives or other repository mediums have been cleaned of University intellectual property data. •Ensures appropriate tracking of inventorial assets. •Identifies any unique items for electronic auction or other strategic sales efforts, researching items for used market price. •Creates and utilizes innovative techniques to enhance merchandising and customer interest. •Ensures all items for sale are visible and displayed appropriately. •Identifies areas for appropriate signage. •Prepares for delivery of incoming property to Excess and Surplus from Central Distribution, Moving services, and others.
Recycling & Disposal •Coordinates preparation of refuse for disposal. •Schedules recycling vendors’ pick-ups as needed. •Sets the parameters for the pricing and interaction with our metal and computer recyclers. •Works with the Ewaste coordinator to arrange Arranges for campus delivery to recycling vendors of any items ineligible for pick-up (i.e., refrigerators).
