DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND SALES , MIT Press (MITP) , to lead a twenty-member team supporting 300 titles annually and forty journals, and maximize the impact and success of MITP publications in the global marketplace. Will develop and execute marketing and sales plans to drive $25+mm in annual revenue from books and journals; serve on senior management cabinet and liaise with marketing, communication, and sales leaders at the Press and across MIT; develop targets and maximize results with sales partners and distributors; ensure maximum impact of all titles, especially those with trade appeal; prepare marketing and sales budgets and perform quarterly performance assessments; collaborate with sales partners to drive laydowns, sell-through, and course adoptions; use quantitative analysis to measure ROI of marketing spends; work with colleagues in Editorial, Design, and Production to create a look and feel for new products; direct/oversee deployment of annual marketing and sales budgets; collaborate with editorial teams to drive product development and reflect the voice of market to stakeholders; recruit and develop talent; oversee the creation and dissemination of print/digital marketing collateral and advertising; manage the Press website; and utilize social marketing media to drive sales and increase the conversation about MITP publications.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) in a related field; at least seven years' marketing, communications, and/or sales experience in publishing; track record of effective personnel management and successful business planning; experience motivating/leading teams in a highly collaborative environment; proven track record of success in marketing, publicity, or digital and social media marketing; strong strategic thinking, organizational, and oral and written communication skills; and ability to be facile in a fast-changing publishing landscape.
