Virginia Military Institute is seeking a Director of Communications and Marketing. Candidates should be committed to the values and mission of Virginia Military Institute, the nation’s first state-supported military college. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director develops and manages a team responsible for enhancing, and conserving the public reputation of VMI by use of effective external and internal communications through both traditional and new media channels. The Director serves as the primary counselor on communications matters to the Superintendent, other senior leaders, and offices and departments throughout the Institute. Specific duties include:
Providing oversight to the editorial services, publications, marketing, and online communications functions of the Communications and Marketing Office.
Conducting strategic communications and marketing planning for the Institute.
Coordinating communications and marketing activities with other offices and departments on post and with the VMI Alumni Agencies.
Developing and coordinating communications strategies in response to issues that have the potential to affect the reputation of the Institute.
Leading the communications effort in actual or potential crisis situations, organizes the response of available staff, provides communications counsel to senior Institute officials
Serving as Institute spokesman.
Candidates should possess a bachelors degree, with preference for a masters degree, in communications, media relations, journalism, or a related field; significant professional experience in formulating and implementing marketing and communications programs; proven leadership skills; strong oral/written communication and competence with both electronic and print media.

Virginia Military Institute is a state-supported four-year undergraduate military college of liberal arts, engineering, and the sciences. It is located in the southern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
