The Assembly Supervisor provides leadership, guidance and supervision for assigned Assembly Cells. This individual will work closely with management to ensure quality products are safely and efficiently produced within scheduled time line. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
Supervision of all personnel within assigned assembly group including:
Management and Monitoring of daily schedules and time off.
Ensure new and existing employees are trained and have the proper record to perform their job tasks.
Maintain the daily workload so everyone is productive at all times while maximizing efficiency to ensure the schedule is met.
Develop others to build a successful team, facilitate change, and align group performance to company values utilizing the company Performance Management system.
Recruit new hires to fill openings as well as keeping capacity matched to demand.
Ensure compliance to Department and Company policies and implementation of corrective steps where a gap exists with the assistance of Management and Human Resources.
Mediate disagreements between employees.
Create a positive work environment where employees are engaged and excited to come to work each day.
Oversight of product output
Ensure practices followed are in accordance with Thorlabs Quality Management System and Fiber Business Unit procedures, work instructions, and assembly instructions.
Responsible for frequent checks of product quality and resolves production and the resulting quality issues that may arise.
Work with Production Planning/Purchasing to establish and maintain a schedule that minimizes Zero Stock and Backorder metrics.
Maintain the guaranteed short lead times for custom and PM cables.
Advise on costing and design as well as ensure on time delivery of special and OEM products.
Develops and maintains methods and procedures to optimize manufacturing efficiencies and quality, maximize labor utilization, and reduce operating costs.
Management of system to ensure consumables and assembly supplies are always available.
Liaison for the release of new products.
Report problems and opportunities for improvement on EAR forms and help to implement solutions.
Maintain all Assembly Equipment in good working order utilizing the Preventative Maintenance system as well as serving as a 1st line of defense for computer and software issues.
Ensuring all areas are clean and free of clutter on a daily basis.
Comply with safety regulations including but not limited to chemical handling, personal protective equipment, and equipment utilization.
Assists in performing physical inventories in accordance with Company procedures.
Participate on the Leadership team of the BU.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar and progressive position with supervisory experience.
Hands on fiber optic cable assembly.
High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent work experience.
