University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.
The Assistant Vice President, Advancement Communications and Marketing will develop the strategic marketing and communications plan for all of UDAR, with a focus on gift solicitation and recognition. This role will create, lead, and direct a comprehensive content and multi-platform communications strategy and direct marketing plan that enhances the reputation of UDAR and NYU. Other efforts include:
Leading UDAR’s communications efforts with high end donors, the President’s office and the Board of Trustees
Strategically develop and direct a broad content strategy focused on traditional and digital channels (web site, mobile, online communities, video blogs) determining both the level and type of content
Direct a team to create engagement with alumni, parents, donors, prospects and friends on all social media accounts and serve as content strategist for social media accounts around UDAR
Lead all fundraising communications initiatives, including the development and execution of principal and major gift proposal strategies and materials
Chart a course to develop better “client” relationship management with donors, parents, and alumni all along the Continuum of Engagement by mapping the lifecycle of our “customer” from prospect to applicant to student to alumnus/donor in order to capture relevant information/relationships
Serve as a senior level interface with NYU's senior department heads and directors on communications initiatives to ensure needs are met in a way that accrues to the UDAR brand
Direct and expand UDAR’s reputation by reshaping the way we capture, translate, and promote alumni and donor information
Serve as key point person in the new brand positioning roll out to ensure all programs embed messages consistently and better leverage multimedia to bring our brand to life
Develop and implement proactive, strategic media plans to increase program and donor visibility, including conceiving story ideas, pitching ideas to appropriate press members

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Required Experience: 10+ years relevant experience with academic media relations, digital marketing, CRM, online community management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience developing and implementing an integrated digital strategy including platform and content. Must include demonstrated success with developing media plans, creating story ideas, and placing stories in the national press and experience supervising staff.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of digital, social media and mobile platforms. Knowledge of managing content and content management systems (CMS). Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify news and feature ideas. Familiarity with operations of media companies including newspaper, magazine, radio, and television businesses.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Experience with desktop publishing software (i.e., Front Page and Quark Express).
