JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:This position reports to the Strategic Communications Manager and collaborates with the Communications division in the Office of Communications and Marketing, as the communications team works to promote and elevate the reputation of the UT Health Science Center to internal and external audiences. This position is responsible for writing and editing content that promotes the university, including the UTHSC faculty, staff, students, colleges, units, organizations, and events for placement on the university website and social media, as well as in various magazines, brochures, ads, and other print and digital marketing materials. The position also assists with social media as needed, serving on a team of content providers and posters. Performs other duties as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports, coordinates, and creates original written communications and content for marketing and advertising, graphic and multimedia design, broadcasting, public relations, website, social media communications, creative/technical or scientific writing and editing, and video.
Communicates and translates complex and technical information and subject matter in a way that can be easily consumed by a target audience.
Works independently, following communications and editorial objectives and the general direction of the Strategic Communications Manager.
Participates in brainstorming, planning, and strategy sessions with Communications and Marketing staff and clients.
Uses professional judgment and communications expertise to create written content that supports UTHSC campaigns and initiatives.
Generates placement of UTHSC articles in print, broadcast, and electronic outlets; draft, edit, send, and follow up with media on press releases (those generated internally and those generated by partner organizations)
Field's media inquiries generated from the press; track inquiries and communicate with appropriate university representatives.
Makes numerous decisions regarding UTHSC's main social media channels that impact the university, its audiences, and are reflective of the university's values: what to post, when to post, when/how to respond to comments and direct messages, who to tag, when to bring in other units or administration to respond to issues, etc.
