The Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL) seeks a creative, enthusiastic, innovative, and highly motivated individual to join the team as Marketing and Communications Manager. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing and Communications of VPAL, the Marketing and Communications Manager manages the design and implementation of communications, messaging, and engagement for institutional brand awareness, including for online courses in the HarvardX and Harvard Online portfolios.
The Marketing and Communications Manager is an integral member of the VPAL marketing team and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for messaging and marketing a diverse portfolio of courses and upholding brand standards across these portfolios. The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for organizing and project managing the launch of all VPAL courses.
Job Specific Responsibilities
- Coordinate and project manage marketing launches for Harvard Online courses
- Manage institutional brand communications and build brand awareness through persuasive messaging campaigns
- Craft brand messaging, ensuring consistent voice and tone across various courses and initiatives
- Draft clear, engaging, and provocative course descriptions and copy; monitor best Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices for all communications, including websites, emails, social media, advertising, and blog posts
- Collaborate with the marketing team, Project Leads, and Product Managers to develop and implement messaging strategies and tactics to position and promote HarvardX and Harvard Online courses
- Conceptualize and research course imagery to accompany course descriptions and advertising
- Manage the creation of course marketing graphics, working with external graphic designers. Collaborate with the video production team to draft scripts and create course trailers and marketing videos
- Conduct market research for upcoming and current courses to optimize messaging
- Evaluate and report on effectiveness of marketing plans and acquisition strategies
- Supports and assist other members of the marketing team and organization as needed. Simultaneously manage multiple projects with short deadlines.

During the current period of Covid-19 related restrictions, this position may start as a remote position, with the expectation that it will transition to onsite in Cambridge as a hybrid position when the office reopens. Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of progressive digital and multi-media marketing experience
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, as well as superior written and verbal skills
- Knowledge and familiarity with all forms of existing and emerging communications opportunities across web, email, and social media platforms
- Knowledge of best practices in online content strategy and creation and experience with content marketing
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and experience with SEO
- Experience with multiple forms of marketing analytics, including social media, Google website analytics, and digital marketing reports
- Experience using marketing automation software to nurture prospects through the marketing funnel from initial interest to enrollment, such as Klaviyo or HubSpot
- Familiarity with graphic design programs and software, such as Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience with project management and strong organizational and time management skills
- The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, be highly organized, show strong initiative, and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced work setting
- Experience working in higher education is preferred
