Interactive Design is a piece of Boston University's award-winning Creative Services group. Nestled within the department of Marketing & Communications on West Campus, the ID hive is always buzzing with innovative designers, wicked smart developers, and colorful copywriters, all of whom have deep knowledge, and passion for BU culture.
If you're passionate, conscientious, and love to design interactive projects from websites, editorial stories, and digital communications projects, this is a place for you. You'll work closely with a team of copywriters, project managers, photographers, and developers while ensuring the project meets high standards of quality and addresses the client's strategic goals. All while being around some nice people.
What you'll do:
- You'll help design and produce a variety of websites, from small strategic sites to larger-scale initiatives for a variety of academic, research, and administrative areas.
- Participate in the design and front-end development of WordPress-powered websites and editorial channels across the University.
- Work with collaborating team members to ensure that client and institutional branding objectives are maintained.
- You'll play a supporting role on our largest university projects and assist project teams with design and production.
- You'll help to own, drive, and improve the digital communications pieces, strategy, and outreach to the university.
- Create exciting online products that tell the BU story.
What you'll have:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience creating and improving online services through outstanding design.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of information architecture, usability, and/or designing for web applications.
- Experience with Mac platforms, Adobe Creative Suite, and multiple devices with web browsers.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS. Sass knowledge is helpful.
- Understanding of content management systems such as WordPress.
- Understanding of HTML Email, and various platforms such as Mailchimp and Constant Contact.
Interpersonal skills:
- Ability to provide and accept critical feedback.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously with limited supervision.
Things you'll learn, or learn better:
As a university, we encourage our team to grow and learn in the office, workshops, conferences, and classes. Through collaboration and sharing of ideas, you'll learn to be a stronger designer, how to structure complex sites, and participate in digital strategy. You'll learn WordPress and see how it works in a managed environment with over 2,000 sites, work with Git, Grunt, Sass, and other modern web tools to help you more easily design and build award-winning sites. You'll probably teach us a few things too. Members of our team have gone on to get master's degrees, speak at conferences, and even contribute to WordPress core.
