Job Description:
The Senior Director of Communications & Marketing serves as a senior member of the Communications & Marketing staff and reports to the Vice-President for Government Relations, Communications & Marketing. This is a leadership role for University-wide communication initiatives and as such, acts as an advisor to deans, vice presidents and other administrators on strategic communications at all levels and represents the Vice-President for Government Relations, Communications & Marketing for campus-wide initiatives. The Senior Director delivers editorial content via print, web and other media and directs, edits and publishes FOCUS magazine via print and digital formats. The position oversees the work of the Communications & Marketing Team with internal clients and provides editorial direction and project management oversight. The Senior Director also plans, develops and implements media communication strategies that raise the University's public visibility through press releases, media advisories and other marketing communications ensuring adherence to University brand standards and overall compliance with the use of University wordmarks and logos. In addition, the Senior Director will advise cabinet level administrators regarding media messages and connect them with media representatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field.
- Five years of experience relating to writing, editing, communications or project management.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment and creating publications and projects that reflect an institution's diversity.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience as a writer, editor and project manager for print and electronic publications.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects within time and budget parameters.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, work independently and as a team member.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree
- Knowledge of higher education issues and practices.
- Knowledge of the SMSU campus community.
- Experience with staff supervision.
