Solebury School seeks a dedicated and experienced person to serve in a full-time, twelve-month position as our Director of Marketing and Communications. This position takes the lead on Marketing and Communications efforts in support of the School’s mission and works with many different constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, Board members, media, vendors, parents, alumni, and others. This position will report directly to the Assistant Head of School as a member of the Advancement Team, supervise the Assistant Director of Communications and work closely with the Admissions Department.
Essential Functions
- Lead marketing/advertising efforts to enhance the Solebury brand and to support student recruitment, including maintaining visual branding and style standards for the school for both digital and print. Director will exercise discretion and judgment to develop and implement strategies and campaigns in concert with Admissions priorities and with an eye to maintaining a set budget
- Oversee production of school publications such as Solebury: The Magazine, the Annual Report, admission materials and fundraising materials. Forecast when a refresh is needed
- Plan and implement a media relations program to create greater visibility locally, regionally, and nationally. Serve as spokesperson for the school when appropriate and work closely with AHOS and Head of School to create and implement media strategies
- Serve as lead on external communications around emergency and/or crisis communications. Manage emergency communications for the School
- Supervise Assistant Director of Communications
Additional Responsibilities
- Formulate annual and multi-year marketing and communications plans, including research and strategies, for incorporation into the overall Advancement plan and budget
- Strategic partnerships – participate in local events on behalf of the school, including local business associations, historical societies and other external partners. Identify and research award/scholarship opportunities for students, faculty and staff, assist with application as appropriate
- Provide vacation/sick leave coverage for website updates and social media postings
- Assist with special events, including, but not limited to, Senior/Trustee Dinner, Alumni Weekend and all graduation activities
- Support the mission and vision of Solebury School
- Perform other duties as assigned by Assistant Head of School - Advancement & External Affairs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Strong understanding of Google suite is mandatory; experience with a relational database a plus. Applicants with a photography portfolio and/or video editing experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with fundraising and/or independent school education preferred
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to build relationships and handle multiple concurrent projects are required
- Five years or more of progressively responsible experience in communications and marketing, preferably in a non-profit or school setting
- Knowledge of communications, fundraising, promotional and marketing principles, and social media
- Solid writing, editing, and presentation ability
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of responsibilities
- Demonstrated organizational ability that allows candidate to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines and to establish goals and workload priorities
- Professional demeanor, flexible and able to respond to multiple demands
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- May sit or stand for extended periods of time at a desk in front of a computer
- Duties are performed indoors, usually in an office environment, and occasionally outdoors
- May lift up to 20 pounds
- Work under tight timelines
- Must be flexible regarding work schedule as limited travel may be required. Some weekend/evening events required, including one weekend of residential life duty each school year
