The Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for all athletic communications for the intercollegiate athletics program. This position reports to the Director of Athletics and is charged with providing the college community, prospective students, alumni, and the general public with an increased awareness of NEC’s athletics programs.
• Creates and implements a strategic communications plan utilizing the latest sports marketing techniques, emerging technologies, social media, video and digital marketing tools to enhance recruitment and retention.
• Initiates cross-departmental communication and collaboration with a variety of campus constituents including communications, marketing, alumni relations, student and academic affairs
• Provides all on-site athletics communication services, including in-game statistics for home contests and championship events.
• Distributes timely information about NEC’s intercollegiate athletics teams to the local, regional, and national news media
• Creates and edits game and team highlight videos
• Manages and updates all website content and social media platforms with scores, current statistics, records, rosters, photos, game notes, previews and recaps, interviews, special features, and video
• Produces electronic media guides for each NEC sports team
• Develops and produces game day programs
• Compiles, updates, and reports statistics to the North Atlantic Conference, the New England Hockey Conference, and the NCAA
• Serves as the primary media contact for the Athletics department and each of the 18 NEC sports teams
• Provides hands-on learning experience for all student workers as it pertains to webcasting, statistics, sports journalism and various office duties.
• Builds relationships with local community groups to elevate the institutions athletics events and engage with potential fan base
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of three years of experience in the field of athletics communications or sports information, preferably at the higher education level
• Working knowledge of StatCrew software and Automated Scorebook, Pagemaker and/or Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop and Microsoft Word
• Statistical experience with multiple NCAA sports
• Strong working knowledge of Stat Crew in-game statistical program
• Knowledge of news, reporting, public relations, printing, graphics and editing principles, practices, and techniques
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to delegate
• Flexible hours, including evenings/ weekends. Some travel required
• Ability to stat volleyball
