Strategize with Directors to develop and optimize email campaigns and workflows and supervisor the Email Marketing Coordinator to achieve ambitious DCE-wide growth goals.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing Services in the Office of Marketing and Strategic Planning at Harvard's Division of Continuing Education (DCE), the Email Marketing Manager is responsible for managing email strategy to support the pillars of DCE, including the Extension School, Professional Development Programs, Summer School, and the Institute for Learning in Retirement. The Manager will also lead, supervise, and manage the Email Marketing Coordinator
Duties and responsibilities include:
Strategy & Planning
Lead the strategic discussion to create an email marketing plan for each brand.
Strategize and manage the implementation of sophisticated and highly dynamic email campaigns and progressive, behavior-triggered nurture program at each stage of the buyer's journey. Includes working collaboratively on creative development, list management, audience segmentation strategies, as well as technical development, testing, execution, tracking, and refinement
Balance adherence to standard processes and industry best practices with adaptability to respond to changing business priorities to optimize meeting business objectives and ensure compliance and managing strategy for different industry regulations
Platform & Process Management
Monitor and perform quality assurance/control review to ensure device optimized, flawless execution and on-time deliverability of email deployments, A/B test and email optimization to assess and improve acquisition and retention performance across all user touchpoints and to maximize conversion and lead quality
Troubleshoot errors within platform and find possible solutions to resolve in a timely manner
Create and maintain an email preference center, email cadence calendar, email templates, process documentation, as well as lead scoring and attribution models
Reporting & Analytics
Report on email KPIs and campaign performance analytics. Drive continuous improvements across email deliverability, open, click-to-open, conversion, opt-out and unsubscribe rates via testing and optimization
Provide insights into email marketing trends to Directors by collaborating with Marketing Analyst on email metrics, registrations, applications, and other KPIs as requested
Create, Proof, and Edit Content
Create content, write copy, and optimize newsletters based on analytics and DCE goals
Reviews and copy edits all email messages to ensure they are meeting brand standards across teams and the organization

The Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement allow Harvard to serve the learning needs of students across their life. For more than a century, Harvard Extension School has made Harvard faculty and teaching accessible to a diverse community of local, national, and international students. Harvard Extension School enrolls approximately 17,000 students per year in approximately 46 graduate and undergraduate liberal arts and professional fields. More than 1,500 open enrollment courses are offered year-round with over 600 available online are offered at affordable prices to our communities across the world. Harvard Summer School offers approximately 450 courses on the Harvard Campus to 11,000 secondary school, college and adult learners and more than 30 international study abroad programs for up to 600 students each summer. The Division also includes the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement with approximately 550 active members and Harvard Professional Development Programs offering nearly 130 short noncredit programs to more than 3,200 participants annually.

Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or related area
- Minimum 5 years' experience in progressive e-mail or content management
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with HubSpot or similar marketing automation platform, including creating emails, workflows, lists, and list segmentation
- Expertise in best practices in email marketing
- Excellent email copywriting and copyediting skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to work with multiple stakeholders
- Self-starter with the ability to initiate email campaigns to achieve marketing goals
- Strong organizational skills with ability to create and maintain processes
- Experience training team members on email marketing automation software
