Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications for Student Affairs. Reporting to the Director of Communications, with a dotted-line report to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs – Health & Wellness, the Assistant Director will be responsible for the direction and implementation of communications and marketing efforts for departments within Rutgers Student Health, including CAPS and HOPE, to promote the services provided to prospective students, current students, and the university community.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Works with the Student Health leadership to develop and implement communications strategies and initiatives that promote the represented departments in a positive and exciting manner and assists departments in achieving their communications goals.
Oversees the SAMC office's creative team, made up of full-time marketing specialists and student graphic designers, videographers, and photographers, and will be responsible for the managing the creative team resources in order to effectively and efficiently deliver products within established timelines.
Assists the Director of Communications in supporting the communications efforts for the Division of Student Affairs. Responsibilities include digital and print media presence, branding of the departments and their programs, the coordination of a consistent message with the Division of Student Affairs and other departmental initiatives.
Measures and tracks analytics to evaluate effectiveness of resources, workflows, and marketing and communication programs.
Develops and sustains partnerships with various university units and departments, such as University Communications and Marketing, New Brunswick Communications, Admissions, the School of Arts and Science, Mason Gross School of the Arts.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree, preferably in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Minimum 5 years' experience with marketing, graphic design, project management, public relations, and supervision.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of branding and visual identity systems.
Strong communication and writing skills.
Proven experience using the internet as a marketing tool for disseminating information.
Must be able to analyze, process, and organize large quantities of complex information from a variety of sources.
Must be comfortable with social media and email marketing as a communications tool, as well as able to think broadly and conceptually and formulate creative solutions to communication problems.
Strong organization skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
Experience in higher education is a plus.
Website content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal.
Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, across multiple clients and prioritize projects and resources to meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate clearly and explain technical and/or conceptual information to laypersons.
Knowledge of video production, including tripod and lighting setup, microphone/audio setup, video capture, editing, and exporting to various platforms.
Knowledge in use of DSLR cameras, lenses, and accessories.
Mac operating system, Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Photo/Video equipment (DSLR and specialized cameras, tripods, lighting, microphone systems), Wordpress and Drupal Content Management Systems, online project management systems, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube; Adobe Creative Suite. Online teleconferencing and collaboration tools such as Zoom, WebEx, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Box, and Smartsheet.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Light lifting and carrying of photographic/Video equipment.
Time will be divided between working out of the office and on location around the New Brunswick campus for meetings, event coverage, and observation of facility usage and student media consumption trends.
Will require working occasional evenings and weekends for initiatives and program coverage.
