Position Summary: The Director of Marketing & Communications oversees the Marketing & Communications strategy and operations at AATS. Working directly with the Senior Director of Administration, the Director of Marketing & Communications also supports the organization’s strategic initiatives and works alongside the Directors of Meetings, Publications, IT, and the AATS Foundation to ensure the delivery of consistent, cohesive and meaningful communications to a highly selective audience of cardiothoracic surgeons. The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for implementing the vision and outlining the roadmap for the marketing strategy of AATS and the AATS Foundation. This position is full-time and remote during standard hours (EST) and requires travel (up to 15 - 20%). Candidates can reside anywhere in the US with a preference for location in the Boston, MA or DC Metro Area.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Define the overall marketing strategy for AATS and the AATS Foundation
- Develop marketing and communications plans, social media strategy, and fundraising strategy to support the organization’s various initiatives
- Work collaboratively with CEO, Board of Directors and AATS leadership team to develop innovative programs to enhance and diversify AATS revenue stream
- Frequently presents marketing performance updates to the CEO and the Board, leads discussions and negotiations related to marketing
- Help instill and cultivate a data driven culture across departments
- Oversee daily marketing and communications operations
- Manage the marketing budget; source external consultants when needed
- Manage marketing team; hiring & recruitment to support departmental needs
- Implement and nurture the use of marketing technology, using data analytics to drive key business decisions
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders gaining a deep understanding of target audiences; ensures content marketing strategy follows branding guidelines
- Oversee creation of all marketing assets such as print collaterals, advertisements, ensuring they are appropriately targeted and on brand
- Develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Marketing or Communications
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in the nonprofit or association sector
- Experience with medical or life-science organizations a plus
- Previous experience developing organization-wide communications and marketing plans, overseeing budgets and liaising with external vendors such as contractors, freelancers and/or marketing agency
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with highly selective external and internal audiences, including surgeons, and Board members
