Position Summary
The Roger Lehecka Double Discovery Center (DDC) at Columbia College works with low-income and first-generation college bound youth between the ages 12 and 27 to ensure high school graduation, college access & enrollment, and college persistence & completion. The Center is a department located within Columbia College and funded from different sources including government grants, corporate and foundation funding, institutional funds, and individual donors. DDC is home to one of the nation???s TRIO programs, Talent Search, funded in part by multi-year grants from the U.S. Department of Education???s Office of Postsecondary Education.
The Development and Marketing Associate reports to the Director, Development and Marketing and plays a vital role in the successful implementation of a development and marketing strategy. This position works to enhance the visibility and philanthropic support of The Roger Lehecka Double Discovery Center. Working with the Director, the Associate brings an ever-evolving creative, dynamic, and impactful perspective to fundraising and marketing campaigns to best position the Center for future success and growth.
Reporting to the Director, Development and Marketing, this position will work as an integral part of the development and marketing team, providing administrative and creative support.
THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IN THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON ONGOING SUFFICIENT FUNDING.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the creation of high impact development and marketing collateral that educates donors and provides them with informative, targeted marketing touchpoints.
- Plays a key role in the creation of a sophisticated monthly newsletter that can be used as marketing collateral including drafting and editing content. Helps execute emails, social media posts, and other communication mechanisms as needed.
- Spearheads prospect/foundation/grant research, runs/creates gift reports, processes gifts, prepares/creates analytical reports, and enters/manages data tracking.
- Creates and deploys email-marketing using Mailchimp, HTML, and/or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Responds to donor questions and/or directs them appropriately to assure effective day-to-day operations.
- Manages with the donor/foundation/grant acknowledgement process, including drafting templates and letters, mailing acknowledgments in-house, and tracking donor stewardship.
- Coordinates, compiles, and routes applications and reports for grants (e.g. government, foundations, and corporations).
- Develop dynamic, visually appealing, and impactful stewardship reports; donor recognition/thank-yous; printing and mailing of stewardship reports/donor recognition/thank-yous.
- Manages various mailings, compiling and checking mailing lists for accuracy, assuring adequate supplies of materials related to the department???s activities???reply cards and envelopes, brochures and other related documents, etc.
- Plays a significant role in planning and executing events and meetings, as well as preparing promotional materials, invitations, and reports for internal and external purposes.
- Manages the general maintenance of the DDC website and edits content.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested, including but not limited to, data management and ad-hoc projects across the DDC???s various teams.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s degree required or its equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of related experience required.
Experience using Mailchimp, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, HTML, and Canva.
Experience with various social media outlets and knowledgeable in trends/best practices to reach new audiences.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of basic fundraising principles.
Excellent writing, editing, research, customer service and interpersonal skills required.
Extreme attention to detail and an eye for accuracy required.
Strong organizational and time management skills with an ability to prioritize.
Must possess a high level of professionalism, creativity and flexibility.
Exceptional proficiency with computers and computer software (Word and Excel) is required, including an ability to learn new software.
Must be self-directed and motivated, able to manage multiple and complex assignments and meet deadlines and production schedules both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to handle confidential matters and maintain confidentiality.
*Must be willing to work some evenings (usually until 6:30pm) and weekends (usually Saturdays from 8am to 4pm) as needed to attend programs and special events*
*Must be willing to work some overnight and evenings during the five-week residential Summer Academy*
