Position Summary
The Director of Marketing role is critical to advancing NCTM’s mission by developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications plans and identifying and managing critical and emerging opportunities to support the Council. The Director is responsible for NCTM’s strategic marketing, communications, media and public relations, partnerships, and outreach plans. They are also responsible for increasing brand awareness, product awareness, member engagement, and visibility by providing marketing and communications support, strategies, and tools in an efficient, effective, and sustainable manner.
This position has two direct reports:
Senior Membership and Marketing Manager
Marketing Communications Manager
And one indirect report:
Membership Data Specialist
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and implement NCTM’s marketing/communications program, ensuring consistent and effective messaging, continuous analysis of impact and investment, and retooling accordingly. Lead all NCTM marketing and communication strategies for products, events, and membership by leveraging resources available through a multitude of communication vehicles and media platforms (email, SM, campaigns, promotion, etc.).
- Track, analyze, and use data across mediums and campaigns to evaluate and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Lead a team of staff marketing professionals and effectively manage outside vendors.
- Develop and execute annual communication plans corresponding to Council activities and member activities that raise the relevance of NCTM and mathematics education, and communicate the Council’s priorities, program investments, and contributions to mathematics education.
- Develop and implement a unified, dynamic, and consistent member communication plan that focuses on supporting and inspiring teachers.
- Lead, support, and collaborate across departments in the development, organization, and implementation of campaigns to support Council goals for membership, conferences, events, professional development, and publications.
- Lead NCTM’s social media, advertising, and email campaigns to grow NCTM’s audience.
- Oversee the marketing and production of a wide range of editorial content for both member and public audiences in written and multimedia formats.

- Understanding and experience in working with teachers and teacher educators preferable

- Experience designing and executing creative marketing and communications strategies that are aligned with organizational goals.
- Relationship building ability and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Superior writing ability, verbal, and public speaking communications skills.
- Effective project management skills.
- Nonprofit experience a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education and/or Experience. Bachelor’s degree required in marketing, communications, or related field, and 5-8 years of related experience and/or training in nonprofit marketing, business development or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated integrated marketing and communications experience. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellence in leadership, interpersonal communications, and vendor management is required. Demonstrated management skills (minimum 5 years’ experience supervising staff) with experience managing volunteer committees and facilitating meetings.
Travel Requirements
Some overnight and weekend travel will be required to attend trade shows and NCTM conferences on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
