The Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for a comprehensive sales and communication
program to effectively sell and raise awareness of one of North Carolina’s top resorts. This
position will oversee a multi-channel operation that includes three lodging entities, an award-
winning restaurant and pub, nationally recognized full-service spa, North Carolina’s first Orvis®-
endorsed fly fishing program, sporting reserve, and a full array of indoor and outdoor activities
and adventures. The DOSM sells the Chetola Resort experience across all media channels via
consistent messaging to our target markets about connecting with the natural world with loved
ones to create shareable memories. It includes the execution of an integrated marketing
communication plan to reach and exceed sales and marketing KPIs.
Hires, trains, and consistently develops and manages the sales and marketing
departments, including all team members.
? Evaluates performance and growth opportunities for individuals and encourages
continuing education and professional development.
? Oversees and manages all project management pertaining to the sales and marketing
department.
? Co-manages, with the assistance of the General Manager, the resort’s sales and
marketing strategic efforts
? Creates and executes new packages, special events, and activities in coordination with
the other departments to offer guests limitless “things to do”
? Manage all resort promotions and special offers throughout the year and for special
events
? Works with resort partners to manage and grow the property’s database of guests and
potential guests
? Develops and manages the Sales and Marketing annual budget
? Stays up to date with marketing trends and digital strategies to outperform the
competition in its overall communication efforts
? Consistently gathers and monitors information on the resort’s competitive set and
maintains responsiveness to changing market trends
? Attends state and local tourism conferences to build industry relationships, learn, and
grow professionally within the hospitality market
? Represents the resort at all networking events and executes all set up for tradeshows
and supplier booths (as needed)
? Attends local chamber and TDA events to network and build key community
relationships
? Acts as the resort’s brand champion to ensure consistent usage of the Chetola Resort
brand both internally, as well as via all external communication efforts
? Cultivates relationships with all resort stakeholders, including, but not limited to: guests,
staff, managers, owners, partners, community relations, local chambers, TDA,
attractions, vendors, and potential business.
? Creates and presents sales and marketing updates to owners, management team, and
POA as needed
? Represent Chetola Resort on the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce board, as well
as other tourism-related committees and organizations
? Oversee all PR-related efforts, manage journalist, influencer, and creator visits while
managing the appropriate narrative for each opportunity; work closely with PR agency
on all Chetola opportunities for earned media
? Serve as Chetola Resort’s lead writer to create compelling stories for all target
audiences with the goal of increasing engagement and conversions.
? Work with the Social Media Manager/ Graphic designer to oversee all visual elements
for the resort
? Assists the Social Media Manager with all social media communication, including the
management of all FB, Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok accounts
? Manages all digital campaigns, including, but not limited to Google Ads, Bing Ads, online
listings, co-op campaigns, sponsored content, native advertising, display ads, and more.
? Manages all traditional marketing efforts, including print, radio, and out-of-home
? Proactively responds to all online reviews, feedback, and social media comments with
the assistance of the Social Media Manager to maintain and improve the resort’s positive
reputation
? Manages all photo and video assets, as well as storage and dissemination to PR-related
opportunities
? Oversees online booking engine development, content, images, video, virtual tours,
copy, and functionality
? Manages the resort’s web site, including all content, updates, PR, promotions, and
performance of the site; manages user accessibility with Equalweb
? Oversees the resort’s email marketing efforts with HMA for resort-wide communication,
as well as in Mailchimp for smaller campaigns; executes RDP mass emails for guest
surveys
? Work with Chetola Sporting Reserve on member newsletters, social media, photo and
video needs, PR-related needs, and overall communication of its offerings to guests and
members
? Act as Committee Chair for the Chetola Family Fund, handling all initial requests for
donations and working with the HR department to allocate resources as part of Chetola’s
community philanthropy efforts
? Act as Event Lead on large-scale marketing events for the resort, including the Annual
Symphony by the Lake and Thanksgiving Weekend at Chetola Resort
? Create and maintain all signage, internal and external, to provide a seamless experience
for guests and team members
? Oversee the management text service account, as well as the Highlands Recreation
Department member communication group
4+ years of hospitality experience
4+ years of sales experience preferably in group/ corporate sales
Exemplary communication skills
Experience with networking, social events, and corporate events
B.A. or B.S. in business or hospitality
Proven leadership, relationship-building, and sales acumen
Creative, responsive, flexible, calm under pressure, and innovative
Highly detailed and organized with problem-solving and analytical skills
