Boston University has an extensive network of websites serving our community of prospective students, students, alumni, athletics, faculty, and staff. This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects with various partners in the university community and to help build the next iteration of websites at BU. We are looking for a Senior Technologist Development to dive into the development and deployment of both websites built with our content management system, as well as plugins and additional features for the university-wide WordPress ecosystem.

You will work with various teams on a variety of different projects to determine requirements, project scope, and feasibility. You will also act as a technical support resource and mentor for both developer and non-developer team members. You will help determine appropriate tools, methods, and solutions for projects to advise project managers in setting project schedules and deadlines as well as act as a thought leader in WordPress for project team members, bridging design and development. Client-facing meetings, technical design reviews, extensive knowledge of our internal product offerings, QA testing, bug-finding/fixing, and assisting with implementation and deployment are a few of the items that will be in your wheelhouse. And yes, you will get your hands dirty and actually write a good amount of code.

Required Skills

• B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5-8 years of experience.
• Understanding of basic computer science algorithms and data structures.
• Extensive experience working with project-based teams.
• Experience with scoping and estimating projects.
• Significant experience with: PHP, JavaScript, and the newest HTML and CSS standards & preprocessors, such as Sass; Developing custom features and functionality for WordPress; Creating WordPress plugins; Using task runners, such as NPM / Grunt.
• Extensive knowledge of the WordPress core codebase, producing unit testing, and QA plans.
• WordPress as a Network Design reviews to determine the feasibility of concepts to aid in scoping and estimating projects.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience working and releasing code to open-source communities.
• Exposure to MV* frameworks.
• Manual data retrieval using SQL Developing for WordPress, Gutenberg editor & React experience.
• WordPress CLI
