Smithbucklin, a 675-person, employee-owned professional services company with more than 70 years of success serving the association market, and primary offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C., is looking for a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to join our Chicago or Washington, D.C. office. The Chief Marketing Officer will be responsible for implementing marketing strategies to grow Smithbucklin’s business and for leading the marketing, business development and communication teams.

In this role, you can expect to…
lead a team of marketing, communication and business development professionals charged with growing our company’s brand and business. You will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing our company’s go-to-market strategy with campaigns that cultivate interest and position our company for extending our market position and accelerating our company’s growth targets.
The CMO role covers the following key areas:
Marketing
- Oversight of business development team.
- Company revenue planning and strategies for new client acquisition.
- Ownership and leadership of corporate marketing technology stack.
Reputation and Brand Management
- Own, evangelize and evolve the brand architecture, strategy and positioning.
- Expand our brand footprint including but not limited to PR and social media.
- Provide perspective and behavioral insights to support the evolution of our value proposition and service offerings.
Communications
- Own and evolve internal communications function, partnering and collaborating with executive team members.
- Advise and support business owners on existing client communications and engagement.
- Collaborate with the CEO and other internal constituents to develop and execute corporate communications.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in marketing with a demonstrated track record of accomplishments in business planning, association management, or professional services.
- Must have association management and/or professional services knowledge including industry trends, and understanding of the current business, economic, and political climate.
- Deep experience in leadership and people management with the ability to successfully inspire, lead and scale large teams within a fast-paced environment where continuous improvement is critical.
- Demonstrated track record of strategic thinking and execution skills is critical.
- Excellent oral /written communication and presentation skills.
- Financial management skills and experience.
- Stellar interpersonal skills - including teamwork and organizational skills.
