Position Description:
Reporting to the Inaugural Dean for the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing will be responsible for developing a school- wide strategy for strategic communications and marketing for the first and only professional School of Music within the University of California. Primary responsibilities related to positioning including digital communications, news releases, earned and owned media and marketing, supervising and coordinating the marketing of events. The target audiences will include donors, students, media, the music industry, and the community. Focus will be on strategically building and enhancing the school's brand, building strong online communities for the school, and supporting initiatives related to enrollment management and institutional advancement.
Major duties include the leadership, creation, implementation, evaluation and assessment of strategies, programs and cross-platform materials to effectively communicate the mission of the School and its three departments (Music, Ethnomusicology, and Musicology), an interdepartmental program (Global Jazz Studies), and various institutes to targeted constituencies. S/he will work in close collaboration with the Dean, the Executive Director of Development and the Associate Director of Enrollment Management and Recruitment, faculty and other university leaders to strategically further the School's communications, admissions, development, and public relations impact and initiatives against established goals and benchmarking metrics. The individual will oversee internal and external communications for the School and work with colleagues across the university to maximize the impact and and value to internal and external audiences.
The individual must be willing to grow and mentor a team, be adept at managing multiple projects at one time and deliver strong outcomes.
Special Instructions:
The budgeted hiring salary/target range for this position is the posted minimum to $11,666.66 monthly ($140K annually), with salary placement based on skills, knowledge, and experience.
