Our School. Situated in a gorgeous building in a North Berkeley neighborhood, Bayhill High School is a college preparatory day school for students with learning differences in grades 7-12. A small, but mighty school, Bayhill serves up to 85 students who come from up to 60 miles away each day. Since its founding in 2007, Bayhill has been a leader in educating students with mild to moderate learning challenges such as dyslexia and ADHD. The Head of School and the school community inviteapplications for a highly relational, thoughtful, and visionary leader to serve as our Director of Marketing, Communications, and Advancement.
The Role of the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Advancement
The Director of Marketing, Communications, and Advancement will provide the overall vision, leadership, and direction for Bayhill’s marketing & communications efforts and strengthen the school’s advancement program. Reporting to the Head of School and an essential member of the senior leadership team, the Director will work closely with other senior leaders, especially the Director of Admissions, to establish priorities and strategies to meet school-wide objectives.
The Director of Marketing, Communications & Advancement must be a savvy marketing genius adept at conveying the school’s value proposition through digital and print modalities. They will have a high level of facility with Google Adwords, Meta Ads, SEO, and content marketing. Additionally, The Director of Marketing, Communications, and Advancement will be an accomplished fundraiser with the strategic vision to interact and engage well with a range of diverse constituents. They will inspire leadership, staff, and the board to be active participants in all aspects of fundraising. The Director must be a skilled listener, communicator, and relationship builder who can articulate clear and compelling cases for support that ensures the growth of our advancement program and the health of the school.
Strategic Goals:
Marketing - Through successful campaigns with Google, Meta, SEO, content development, and other digital avenues, the director will increase website traffic and quality conversions by 20-50%. Collaborating with the Director of Admissions and all faculty and staff, the director will design admissions presentations and events that increase engagement, improve communication of the school’s value proposition, and increase enrollment
Communications - Using brand guidelines and quality content, the director will create compelling and streamlined communications to increase community engagement and further advancement efforts.
Advancement - Using captivating appeals and engaging stewardship, the director will increase the number of donors, steward large donations, and boost fundraising revenue by 100-200%. The director will also research effective grant opportunities and work with the Executive Director to craft results-oriented applications.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (marketing and/or communications field preferred) and 5+ years of experience in marketing AND advancement in an independent school
Extensive experience in digital marketing and social media
Facility with Adobe InDesign, Canva and/or other graphic design software
Ability to successfully track metrics and adapt strategy
Clear examples of successful marketing and advancement campaigns for which you have played a major role
Belief and commitment to the success of students with learning differences
Strong commitment to DEIB
Excellent public speaking skills and professional acumen
Excellent understanding of the landscape of independent school marketing
The mission of Bayhill High School is to educate students with learning differences, focusing on their individual learning needs, with the goal of maximizing their inherent abilities and their potential to succeed. A small high school in Berkeley, CA, Bayhill provides a WASC accredited program, A-G approved course work to students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences. Our neurodiverse student body has average to above average intelligence, but struggle to learn in a large high school due to learning differences. Many of our students have strengths in the arts or sciences.
