Marketing & Social Media Specialist- CVM (Hybrid)
The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Cornell University is actively searching for a dynamic and mission-driven Marketing and Social Media Specialist to become an integral part of the CVM Animal Health Centers team. This role is dedicated to enhancing and elevating the visibility of the Animal Health Center's (AHC) brands through collaborative efforts and strategic marketing initiatives.
In this role, you will report directly to the Assistant Director for Communications & Marketing and will be primarily responsible for:
- Social Media/New Media: Develop and lead social and new media strategies that elevate the Animal Health Centers and CVM before a global audience; and create social media content and campaigns that elevate storytelling. Review emerging platforms that could extend the impact of marketing efforts of the AHCs. Partner with CVM and University Relations' Office of New Media for best practices and issues management
- Digital Content/Assets: Assist in development of timely and accurate content for the AHC's websites including writing articles when appropriate and collaborating on multi-media projects; and assist in management of digital assets
- All communications (see above): Ensure all communication demonstrates our commitment to and encourages behaviors consistent with a culture of inclusion and diversity
- Brand architecture: Ensure clear, consistent alignment among university/college/unit identities
- Metrics: Track and analyze metrics for social media and make recommendations to improve the impact of AHCs external communications and marketing efforts
This position will have the flexibility to work three days a week remotely, beyond the initial training and onboarding phase.
What we need from you:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field and 2-4 years of professional experience in communications or marketing, or equivalent education and experience.
- Expertise in social media outreach strategies, marketing and social media content creation, campaigns, and website management.
- Demonstrated writing skills with ability to produce engaging content.
- Ability to develop excellent working relationships including communicating with faculty, staff, students, and the public in a professional manner at all times.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
If you have all those things, great! Here are some preferred qualifications:
- Strong sense of effective design with proven creative abilities, conceptual skills, attention to detail; ability to use relevant software: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, as well as other publishing software.
- Professional experience working in higher education. Science writing and general news writing skills.
- Familiarity with Analytics, and reporting.
- Experience with web platforms, especially Drupal.
- Experience with external-facing audience communication for both pet owners and lovers as well as industry research professionals.

Animal Health Centers within Cornell Veterinary Medicine (CVM) consists of the Baker Institute for Animal Health, Cornell Canine Health Center and Cornell Feline Health Center. The Cornell Richard P. The Cornell Feline Health Center (CFHC) was founded in 1974 to improve the health and well-being of cats. Now the oldest organization of its kind, the Center educates owners and veterinary professionals, supports all types of research on issues related to cat health, and creates opportunities for cat owners, veterinarians, and cat lovers to identify and address the unmet needs in feline health.
